Saturday’s night’s rain paused a big Itood at Mangahao, but owing to the advanced stage of the work no material damage was done to the works. The foot bridge near the Gorge was swept away but the main suspension bridge came out Inf' it undamaged, although driftwood and timber was piled. II P against it 3ft. high-on the hank. The yards, engine and fitting rooms were all under water, which was 4 feet deep, and one or two of the motors were flooded. The engineer, Mr Johnson, states there is a lot of eieaning up to do, which will take a day or two. He stated the men did splendid work in saving material.
