ASCENT OF MOUNT COOK.

LADY ALPINIST’S ACHIEVEMENT. Timaru, Yesterday. The ascent of Mt. Cook was made yesterday in 11 hours 40 minutes by Professor and Mrs AJgie, of Auckland. Mr H. L. Porter, of the English Alpine Club, and Guides Milne, Stout and Williams. The ascent was made via the Linda glacier, and commenced from the Haast hut. Excellent weather was experienced, without trouble from avalanches ou the glacier, though the party had a ticklish experience in getting away from a stone avalanche. This is the first climb in summer since Mr Sam Turner’s solo effort live years ago, and is the third fastest time on record, and particularly creditable to Mrs Algie, who is among the few women who have made the ascent.
