BOWLING.
A bald-headed bowler came forward to receive his trophy as a member of the runner-up rink upon the conclusion of the final game in the Taranaki Bowling Centre’s tournament at New Plymouth (relates the “News”). “Judging by his head, this is the veteran of the rink,” commented the president of the centre (Mr A. K. Smart). “Yes,” promptly replied the howler pointing to his unthatclied pate, ‘a burnt head.” The retort aroused much laughter.
The second round of the Triangular Contest will be played at Shannon to-morrow, the rinks being the same as those at Shannon, viz.—
Thomson. Christie, Smith, Nye (s); Simpson, Huntley. Ross, Roorc (s). Emergencies: Stohr and Barr.
The arrangements for conveyance evil he the same as last week, leaving the green at 1 o’clock sharp.
On Saturday Trott’s rink (Palmerston North) registered their tenth successive win for the Hum Cup. defeating on their own green Nye’s rink from Foxton by the comfortable margin of 25 to 16. On the seventh head Foxton led 10 —5, but at the close of the eleventh, Trott was one up, the scores being 11 —10. Trott improved his position on each succeeding head, being 17—14 on the sixteenth head, 24 —15 on the nineteenth, and 25 —Hi on the last head. The rinks were: Palmerston North: Wilton, Tremaine, Kerslake, Trott (s); and Foxton: Simpson, J. Ross, Roore, Nye (s). MAN SON AND BARR CUP.
The Manawatu Club rink. W. Hunter, D. E. Jones, W. Jones, and Eckersley (s), were defeated for the Manson and Barr Cup on Saturday afternoon by a challenging rink from Levin, consisting of Wilson, Pike, Suhan, and Rankin (s). The game was played on the Manawatu green, and the score was 21 points to 13.
