ELECTRIFICATION OF RAILWAYS.
That the time may be much nearer than most people believe for the electrification of our railways, avrs the opinion expressed by the Hon. ,J. G. Coates, Minister for Railways and Public Works to a deputation of Wjaitakere and Swanson residents Avho Avaited upon him recently. The Minister’s remarks Avere made in replying to requests for improvements to the railway service and- stations-. In considering all matters pertaining to the railways, Ihe Minister said it. Avas certain Hint the electrification of the railway AA T as coming—that was evident from what had taken place in other parts „f jhe world, and hearing this fact in mind, the utmost care had now to be given to the railway service in New Zealand as the time when the Dominion Avould folloAV in (he steps of countries with the electric rnihvays might not be so far as the majority of NeAV Zealanders believed.
