AND IS FINED. London, January 25. The Rev. J. Karran was fined £lO with £2O costs for sending the Bishop of Sodor and Alan a telegram signed “Baldwin,” arranging for a meeting at Liverpool. Karran explained that he concocted the wire as a joke to cheer a girl passenger threatened with seasickness. It was intended to suggest that Mr Baldwin wanted to offer the Bishop an English bishopric, of which there had been local rumours. [A practical joke played on the Bishop of Sodor and Man caused a sensation in the Isle of Man. The Bishop received a hoaxing telegram summoning him to the mainland, which compelled him to abandon a speech in the local Parliament on the Manx Church Assembly Bill. The Rev. J. Karran, vicar of Marathan, confessed that he instigated the sending of the telegram. The disclosure shocked church circles.J
