MARVELLOUS ESCAPE
EXPRESS TRAIN SATASHES CART.
Timaru, January 24
The south hound express hit a delivery cart at a crossing, near St. Andrew’s. The driver, Kennard, was thrown clear and only badly shaken. The horse, also uninjured, bolted with the shafts, the- vehicle being smashed to matchwood. The engine driver whistled but was not heard by Kenuard, on account of the pounding surf on the beach nearby and the southerly wind. Pieces of the vehicle were picked up over 50 yards away. The driver had a marvellous escape from death.
