ALLEGED PERJURY.
HOTEL LICENSEE COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Levin, Last, Night, Charges alleging perjury were preferred in the Magistrate’s Court to-day against Alfred Walshaw, licensee of the Manukau Hotel and Frank Capon, the prospective licensee. The cases arose out of a recent conviction in which the former was convicted of selling liquor to six youths on Sunday. Walshaw in evidence then said that only three youths came to the hotel and none were erved with liquor, and none were served with liquor, and who was about to take over the premises. Capon’s evidence was that lie did no.t remember the youths coming to the hotel, nor was he introduced to them. Several of the youths were subsequently convicted of riotous behaviour in Levin and Otaki on the same night. At to-day's hearing, five of them gave evidence to the effect that six of the party entered the hotel and were served with liquor and introduced to Capon in a general way. The defence was reserved. Mr Page, S.M., committed Walshaw for trial, but dismissed the charge against the other accused.
