BOWLING.
MANSON & BARR CUP,
On Saturday last a rink from the Terrace End Club visited Foxton to contest their challenge for the Manson and Barr Cup, then held by Roore’s rink. The game was hard fought throughout, and was characterised by good play, although the rotation of scoring was somewhat unusual. Roore led off by scoring one on the first head, and Wallace (Terrace End) ,-imilarly scored on the second. On the fourth head scores were again even —three all. On the ninth head the hoard showed the figures as six all. On the twelfth head Roore was in the lead by 11 —6, but Wallace scored a single on the thirteenth. By the time the fifteenth head had been decided the scores stood 20 —7 in favour of Foxton, and the result seemed a foregone conclusion. However, the game of bowls is remarkable for its uncertainties, and from the sixteenth head onwards the Terrace End rink made the going solid, scoring on each succeeding head, the final result being a win for them by one point, 21 —20. Davidson, leading for Wallace, played a consistent game, drawing admirably throughout.
Following are the details: Davidson. Moffatt, Grant, Wallaco (-) 21: Simpson. Howe, >Tno. Ross. Roore (s) 20.
