BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held last night. CORRESPONDENCE
was read and dealt with as follows: From Messrs Hankins and Fitzherbert, Palmerston North, re account for drawing up of transfer. —Decided that the Mayor interview Messrs Hankins and Fitzherbert.
From Mr P. Whitehead, making application for a refund of money paid for driver's and taxi licenses. —-Declined. From Mr A. Fraser, re water connection. —Divided !o pay portion of cost of new iuAailation, Cr. Coley voting against. GENERAL. Decided that the Mayor be deputed to interview the Prime Minis(ci and the Superintendent of the State Advances Office with a view to arranging a loan- of £I,OOO on account of the £5,000 to he borrowed during the coming financial yea r. Decided that the windows in the ladies’ cloak room al the Town Hall |,o frosted; that a notice be placed in the windows calling attention to the rest room and that the Town Hall Committee meet and bring down recommendations re furnishing of the rest room. Decided that Cr. Thompson he appointed to the Cemetery, Water and Drainage, and Library committees, vice Cr. McMnrray, resigned. Decided that a water closet be put- in the present lavatories at the Municipal Chambers, and that Mr Mouat be asked to proceed with the work as opportunity oecurrs. Decided that Mr Edwards be paid one per cent on the estimated cost of the baths, and reasonable travelling expenses, in the event of the ratepayers turning down the lean proposal, such payment not i, exceed £10; that five per cent, lee bo paid to cover all plans and specifications prepared in the event of the work being carried out. Decided that the road foreman t;C instructed to cut. down willows obscuring the view round the corner Johnston Street and Whyte St. Decided that lease 410 for a term of seven years be auctioned, upset price to be £52 per annum. Decided that a deputation consisting of His Worship the Mayor and Cr. Smith wait on the Chairman of the. Highways Board with a view to pressing Foxton's claims to the Main Highways road coming through Foxton. Decided that a donation of three guineas he made to the Beach Improvement Committee. Decided that letters be written to Messrs Perreau, Oliver and Simmons, stating that the practice of driving down the right-of-way into Main St. without sounding of horns, must be discontinued, or proceedings will be taken, also that the borough inspector be asked to enforce this portion of the By-laws. Decided that any regular employee of the Council be empowered to enforce the by-laws as occasion arises.
Decided that the balance sheets for the years ended 31st March, 1922, and 1923, as certified to by the Auditor-General, be adopted: that the matter of repayment of arnount raised in excess of Antecedent liability, namely, £8 12/-, be left in the hands of the Mayor to a rrange.
