NAVAL OFFICER SHOT

IN 'J'HK COMMANDER’S CABIN

Auckland, January 7. Lieutenant Edward Alexander Anderson, of H.M.S. Philomel, was found in the captain’s cabin on Sunday afternoon with a serious wound in the head and a revolver close by He died in the hospital two hours later. Deceased asked the quartermaster at the gangway if the captain was aboard. Ten minutes later the quartermaster heard a shot and search resulted iu Anderson being fottnd. It is understood the icvolver was the property of the Philomel’s commander. Anderson was a native of Britain, aged 38 years, and unmarried. He had been in New Zealand about three years.
