MR MASSEY IN AMERICA.
DOMINION LOAN ARRANGED., NEW ZEALAND’S GOOD POSITION. New York, December 24. All' Massey arrived here, quite recovered from a recent cold. His itinerary includes a short speaking tour of Aiontreal, Quebec, aud Ottawa, where he will be formally received by -the Government, and he will sail .from Vancouver on January 4. He informed the Australian Press Association concerning the New Zealand loan that he had definitely arranged details thereof, though New Zealand was not anxious about it. New Zealand was a vigorous young country, and naturally required capital for full industrial realisation, but her strong financial position relieved the Government of any concern in affecting such a loan, if such a loan was made it would be floated in London rather than in New York. Air Massey expressed reluctance to comment on the results of the Imperial Conference, especially in view of the British elections, which necessarily complicated the attitude of the British Parliament. The Premier, however, was inclined to admit frankly that the situation was such that lie desired to keep an open mind, rather than predict certain specific results of the conference. He added: “1 am hopeful that the British Parliament will ael favourably on the conference’s recommendations, hut it is in the lap of the gods.” Mr Massey, in commenting on preferences, declared that New Zealand was in an exceptionally favourable position, since its preferential arrangements with the Dominions had been long operative, and lienee there was no uncertainty ou that score.
