MANAWATU RACES
A SPLENDID DAY’S SPORT. The summer meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club opened on the Awapuni course in brilliant weather yesterday, and there was a very large attendance of the public. The racing was interesting throughout, and some good finishes were witnessed. The totalizator handled v £52,634 as compared with £52.632 for Ihe corresponding day last year, an increase of £2. Results are as follows: Tokomam Hurdles Handirap.— Eonmark 1, Otanm Kid (P. McBreaty) 2, Sir Roseberry 3. Won by two lengths, three lengths separating second and third. Sling Camp was fourth. Time 3.16 1-5. Maiden Plate:—All Gold 1, Pnnim 2, Heath cote 3. Won hy a length, with half a length between second and third. Time 1.16 1-5. Tararua Welter Handicap.—Bas-,% so 1, Red Cherry 2, Stream 3. Won by four lengths, a length separating second and third. Moonstruck was fourth. Time 1.50 2-5. Manawatu Cup Handicap.—Mark Time 1, Trespass 2. Bonetter 3. Von by a length with half a length between second and third. Helen Rufus was fourth. Time 2.37 3-5. Nursery Handicap.—Gaillard 1, Siaosi 2, Solferange 3. Won hy a head, the third horse being a length away. Bonideer was fourth. Time 1.3 1-5. Gillies’ Handicap.—lhnpotoa 1, Civility 2, Anticipate 3. Won by half a length, with a neck separating second and third. Millimetre was fourth. Time 1.15. 4 Fitzherbert Handicap.—Halgina 1. Lndyfingers 2, Waipatn 3. Won ■b.v tlireequ?irters of a length, the third horse being half a -neck away. Island was fourth. Time 1.15 4-5. Grandstand Handicap:-—' Colt?\' Steel 1, Cleasnnta 2. Crown Star 3.
