SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The ordinary meeting of the local State School committee was held on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Ilornhlow (chairman), Rangiheuea (secretary), Geo. Colev, Cowley, C. Pearson, Perrenu, .Tno. Ross, Stevenson, and the headmaster, (Mr ,T. Banks). An apology for absence was received from Air Rimmer. CORRESPONDENCE.
A letter was read from the Inspector of Health.- (Air Huggins), advising that he had paid a surprise visit of inspection on a recent week-end afternoon. The e.lnssloonis and out offices were entirely satisfactory and the cleaning operations had been very thorough.— The chairman said tlic report was very satisfactory and would remove any suspicion in connection with the janitor’s work. The report was handed to tho headmaster for filing purposes.
From the Education Board, accepting Hie resignations of Airs Frank and Miss Patou. —Received. From (lie Board, recommending the appointment of Aliss Ina Grace Dent to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mrs Frank.—Decided to endorse, same and to urge upon tlie Board the desirability ol appointing a male teacher to fill any further vacancy.
The headmaster reported that, the roll number was 435, with an average attendance of 389.1. The school closes for (he Christmas holidays on the 20th and reopens on Tuesday, February sth. Several requiring attention were referred to end work carried out lo the grounds by the pupils outlined.—The report, was adopted.
Resolved to ask the Board to attend to tlie locks on doors, leak in tin* gutter and defective spouting during the holidays; that the purchase of hose he left in the hands of i he headmaster and Mr Pearson, that the trimming of hedges he left in the. hands of Mr Coley.
It win resolved to ask the Board to erect a concrete trough to he connected with water pipe, for the horse paddock. It was resolved to hold a concert in connection with the prize distribution ni tlie Town Hull, to which an admission charge will be made in aid of (lie prize fund, the details to he left in the hands of llie chairman, headmaster and stall and that the purchase of prizes he left in the hands of the headmaster. Mr Pearson brought, up the question of tlie annual school picnic and il was resolved to hold the picnic on Wednesday, February 6th. 4 the location to be held over until a further meeting. Messrs Coley and Jnu. Boas were appointed visitors during the holidays.
