THE HEMP MARKET

NOVEMBER GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for the nion!h of November for hemp, tow and stripper slips have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: — Hemp.—The total number of hales graded was 6,582, as compared with 6,153 bales for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 399 bales. For the twelve months ending 30th November, 1923, the number of bales graded was 60,158 ns compared with 62,420 for the previous twelve months, a deei’oase of 2,262 bales. Tow.—During the month 1,472 bales of tow were graded as compared with 1,917 for the same month last year, a decrease of 439 bales. For the twelve months ending 30th November, 1923, the number of bales graded was 14,928 as compared with 15,643 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 715 bales.'Stripper Tow. —During the month 174 bales were graded as against nil in 1922. Stripper Slips.—During the month 11 bales stripper slip's were graded as compared with 7 bales for the corresponding month last, year, an increase of four bales. For the 12 months ending 30th November, 1923 the number of bales graded was 118 as compared with 122 for the previous twelve monthSj a decrease of four hales. The following is the detailed particulars of' the hemp graded:—

Wairoa One bale at Wellington was graded super-fine and six bales at Auckland, 12 at Foxton and seven at Wellington were rejected. The following shows the number of hales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Super-fine 1 (nil), good fair 896 (1,686), high fair 3,768 (3,394), fair 1,609 (858), common 28J (105) rejected 25 (138), condemned nil (1), a total of 6,582 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1,225, Foxton 1,700, Wellington 2,409, Blenheim 176, Bluff 626, Picton 74, Wairoa 372. The following is the detailed particulars of the tow graded:—

The following' shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 414 (934), 2nd grade 938 (737), 3rd grade 116 (234), condemned TO (12), a total of 1478 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 238, Foxton 238, Wellington 506, Blenheim 60, Bluff 228, Wairoa 74, Picton 44. Stripper Tow. —Sixteen bales at Foxton and 63 at Wellington were graded Ist grade, 86 bales at Foxton were graded 2nd grade and 9 at Wellington 3rd grade. Stripper Slips,—Four bales at Auckland were graded Ist grade and seven at Auckland were graded 2nd. grade.
