INTER-CLUB AIATCHES. The first round of the inter-club matches arranged by the Alanawatu Croquet Association was commenced in Palmerston North on Thursday. Teams from Hunterville, Foxton, Levin and Woodville, in addition to local players, took part and general satisfaction with the arrangements was voiced by the visitors. The standard of play attained was high and keen competition was manifested. The second round will lie decided during the coming week. Following are the results of tho first round: —Foxton v. Levin. —Airs Pearson and Miss Spnrkes beat Mrs Hughes and Airs Nicholson, 2fi—2s; Mrs Ball and Airs Healey heat Airs Pink and Airs Kirk, 2(1—15: Airs Pearson and Airs Parkes heat Airs Mrs Wvllie lost to Aliss AVh it taker, 21 —26* Total points; Foxlon 94, Levin 92. North Street v. Woodville. —Airs John Young and Airs Mayes heat. Airs Healey and Airs Hughes, 26 — 14; Airs Gambill and Airs Martin heat Airs Turvey and Airs Norman, 23—13; Airs Bull bent Airs Healey. 13 —3; Airs Ale Gregor heat Airs Hughes s—l. The last three games could not he played out owing to shortage of time. Total: North St. 67, Woodville 34.
