VALUELESS CHEQUES
AND A BAD MEMORY. Dunedin, Last Night. In the Police Coui’t to-day Albert William Grant, a married man, 27 years of age, was charged with obtaining from a drapery firm goods valued at £4 3/6 and £5 10/6 by means of a valueless cheque; also with forging a cheque on the National Bank for £lO by purporting it to be signed by Mr. Campbell; also with obtaining £lO in goods and money from another firm by means of a cheque similarly signed. In a signed statement, a soused said ho came from Christchurch, and while in Dunedin had consumed a fair amount of liquor, as lie felt, unwell. He did not remember signing the cheques and had clothing in his possession that he did not remember buying. Accused was committed for sentence.
