FOXTON SWIMMING CLUB
A genei’nl meeting of the above, which was largely attended, was held in Perreau’s rooms on Tuesday night, Air R. Ilornblow in the ehair. Mr Tyei’, on behalf of Messrs Ban* and Tver, presented their handsome enp for the annual relay compel ition. In doing so, he expressed pleasure that the club had deeided to have the cup as a relay trophy. He said the spirit engendered in relay races was the spirit that wanted to be fostered—each man doing his best for the benefit of (lie others in the, team. It: was not the selfish spirit of each man looking for a prize. He also spoke in praise of the swimming chib and its aims and said such enterprises deserve d en e our a genien t. Mr R. Hornblow briefly thanked the donors on behalf of the club. A very fine medal was also received from Mr R. N. Speirs, for which the club wishes to heartily thank the donor.
Air D. Ball was appointed treasurer.
Mr A. Walls suggested that school boys should be debarred from entering for the relay race. After a good deal of discussion, the meeting decided that school boys should be allowed to enter, only two members voting against. A vote of thanks to Air Perreau for the use of the rooms concluded the meeting. A working bee did good work at the river yesterday in filling in a low portion at flic south end of the wharf. Entries are now coming in freely for the opening day sports and indications are for a very successful opening. The club would tic pleased to receive any donations or trophies for their opening carnival.
