PLUNKET SOCIETY REQUEST A ROOM.

DEPUTATION TO THE COUNCIL. In view of the agitation for the construction of a pnblie library, etc. on Easton Park, in conjunction with ibe public swimming baths the Foxton branch of the Plunket Society waited upon the Borough at last night’s meeting with a fB- - that a room he included in the proposed building for (heir use. Ml-s McMurray outlined tlie. request for the Society and said that the extra cost would not be great, as the room they would require would be 10 yc 12. Airs F. Robinson also addressed tlie Council on behalf of the Soeiety’s request. Cr. Bryant asked if ibe spare room at the Town Hall would not. meet the requirements of the Society’? Airs ArcAfurray said that tlie Society would prefer an additional room in connection with the rest room if the pi’oposed building was erected. Afothers would then he aide to wail in the rest room. This would really mean that they would have two rooms. The Alayor said that the Council would favourably consider the question and he outlined the good work done by the Society. He asked, however, if the deputation thought that, in the event of the proposed building being erected on Easton Park, whether it would tie a good site for a Plunket room—next to a public house? Tlie question brought a smile to the faces of the deputation. Crs. Smith and McMurray spoke in support of the deputation’s request and tlie deputation thanked the Council and withdrew.

The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held on Monday. Present: Mesdaines F. Robinson (acting-president), Pearson, McMurray, Hynes, Christie, A. Ross, Trueman, Wyllie, and Clirystall. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Walton, McDonald and Owen. Correspondence from Mr C. E. Deinpsy, enclosing donation, to funds of £5 8/- from the West Coast S.S. and Trading Co., was received with thanks. Accounts amounting to £2l 13 3LI were ;>assed for payment. The nurse’s report showed four visits to Eoxton branch; visits to home 11, adult visits to office 43, babies 41, new eases 1. Mesdames F. Robinson, Hynes, A. Ross and Trueman were appointed a visiting committee for the month and Mrs Owen flower steward. Mesdames F, Robinson, McMurray, F. McDonald, Walton, A. Ross, Hynes, and Christie were appointed as a deputation to wait on the Borough Council asking them to include a Plunket room in the proposed new library, reading-room and rest room building.
