In the Police Court at Palmerston North on Thursday, Charles Whitaker pleaded guilty and was committed to, the Supreme Court for sentence,/ on a charge that “being the grantor of a bill of sale over sheep and cattle to Ills Majesty the King, he bid, by the sale oi certain sheep for £213 10s, without the consent of the grantee, defraud the grantee of the same and impair his security.’’ The Governor-General (V iscouut Jeilicoe), has sent the following message to the Secretary of State for the Colonies in connection with the death of the liight Horn A. Donar Law; —“New Zealand Government and I have learned with the deepest regret of the death of Mr Donar Law, whose services to the Empire have been of such exceeding value, and whose end, we fear, has been hastened by his devotion to the Empire’s cause. Will you please convey to the members of his family the deep sympathy felt by all m New Zealand. — (Signed) Jellicoe.” Nearly 300 different kinds of tiny shells go to make up common chalk.
