BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT. The -water engineer reported as follows on'the work done at the. pumping station: —“During the rnonlh one ton sewt. of coal was consumed at a cost of £3 11/6; two gallons of oil was used at a cost of 9/-. Wages: water works £ls 16s; drainage: £6 3/6; miscellaneous 15s a total of £26 15/-. Forty-eight hours were spent at pumping water and 352,000 gallons were pumped. The cost of pumping per 1,000 gallons was 6d. The number of hours foreman was employed at outside work was nine, producing 2/6 per hour, a total of £1 2/6, and eleven hours at 2/1 producing £1 3/5, a total of £2 5/11.” ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported as follows on the work undertaken during the month: “During the month of September, the road staff have completed the concrete kerbing in Johnston Street and graded the footpath ready for asphalting. We have also been engaged in cleaning up debris around the new Council Chambers, repairing dividing fence and screening sand for Johnston Street footpath and as we have sufficient material ready to do half of this work, a start will shortly be made to lay same. We have also certain repairs to do to Main St. footpath-, where water and gas connections have been made. Parts of Main St. will need patching and top dressing this season, especially that portion south of Wharf St. The part newly laid last season needs another coating of tar and sand grit to ensure it keeping in good * condition.” GENERAL.

Decided that the Town Hall report be adopted; that repairs to the engine be affected at the earliest, moment possible. It was decided that Mr Hofmann’s offer for £4 17/6 for putting in a new door at the Town Hall be accepted, door to be of heart riinu.
