NARROW ESCAPE FROM FATAL ACCIDENT.

GUARD SIMPSON’S PLUCKY ACTION. A narrow escape from a fatal accident was averted by the coolness and bravery of Guard Simpson at Hie Tiakitahuna railway station one night last week. An elderly crippled man alighted from the train and as lie was proceeding along the platform he slipped and fell between (lie last carriage and van just as the train commenced to pull out. Guard Simpson noticed the man’s plight and instantly seized him and pulled him sufficiently clear of the wheels - which went over a portion of the man’s coat. Those who witnessed the occurrence said the guard’s quick and plucky action saved the man from certain death.
