FIRE BOARD ESTIMATES.

Al Thursday’s meeting- of the Eoxton Eire Board, a letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs approving the estimates hut suggesting a reduction in the secretary's salary scheduled at £SO. The chairman strongly opposed a reduction of the salary, as the work required much attention during the initial years. Mr Cray endorsed the chairman's remarks and said the salary was fixed year by year. The matter should be explained to the Minister hut no time should be lost in getting the estimates settled, as the levies should now he in so that accounts could he paid. Mr Coley said an explanation of the matter had convinced him that the salary allocated was fair. It was unanimously resolved that Mr Cray wait upon the-Minister and endeavour to get his endorsement to the allocation.
