HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. . A committee meeting of the above was held on Monday night. A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Spring Show was submitted by the secretary, which disclosed a small credit balance. The statement was received and was favourably commented upon. A sub-eommitte was appointed to examine _and re-arrange" tbe schedules of both the Spring and Sura-. pier Shows. ~ , Accounts amounting to £26 7/4 were passed for payment. . Mr Renton, past president, was appointed a-fife member in recognition of his 'valuable services to the society. * ry It was decided to hand over the schedule of .school-work to the headmaster to be revised. The advisability of changing the schoolwork from the Summer Show to * the Spring Show was considered, as the examinations in November prevent much show work being done. It was suggested that the Society have a cake and sweets stall instead of tea-rooms at the next show. A decorative class for girls from 15 to 18 years is to be inserted in the next schedule. Another class is to be added to the sweet pea section —this being a bowl (of certain size) of 1,2, or 3 varieties, quality and effect combined to be considered in judging. For the Summer Show there is a new garden class. This is an open class, so those who are- not eligible through having won a previous garden competition, are able to enter for thp open class. This should revive interest in those who have considered themselves “out of the running” in the garden competition.
