COMBINED MISSION.
TO COMMENCE IN NOVEMBER
For some time past combined Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist and Salvation Army week-night, services have been held in preparation of a combined mission to be conducted by Mr .W. J. Mains, in November. A meeting of representatives of the various- churches was held in the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night to set. up a committee, appoint officials and settle other details in connection with the 4 Mission. The Rev. F. McDonald was appointed chairman and he outlined the object of the mission. Referring to the missioner, he said Mr Mains was. not a minister. He was a retired business man who had given himself ,up to evangelistic work. Except for travelling expenses he did not accept payment. Mr McDonald spoke of the missioner’s high credentials and the splendid work he had accomplished. The Rev. W v H. Walton spoke on the necessity for a spiritual revival in our midst and of his experiences in mission, work in England. One point about the mission was that it would increase the spiritual life of each church'. A representative committee was set up and Messrs McMurray and Downes were . appointed joint 'secretaries, Mr Christie treasurer; „ choir organiser, Rev. Mr Walton; conductor, Mr R. T. Betty; organist Mr Thornber. It was decided to engage the Town Hall for the three Sundays and on week nights when not used for other purposes. The services would be held each week except on Saturday nights.
