DANCE.
Tlip dance held in the Town Hall last evening as a finale to the weekly assemblies, conducted throughout the season in the Masonic Hall, was quite a*big affair, and proved very' enjoyable. The interior of the lmlf ~ was nicely decorated with coloured streamers and small balloons, and the floor had received sufficient attention to pul it in good dancing order. A feature of the evening was the vocal items rendered at intervals by the Misses Morgan (duet) and Messrs Carter and McGregor, all of which were well received. Excellent music was supplied by Mesdames Pearson and Dunn, (Messrs A. Walls, Small (violin), B. Walls (cornet), George, Hirini, and Carter and the floor was well filled by dancers. A balloon waltz competition created considerable amusement, and resulted in Miss Laev and Mr A. Walls gaining the trophy presented by Mrs Hudson. A spot waltz was won by Miss de Ridder and Mr Robinson, who received the' Committee’s trophy, and a special prize presented by Mr Montague went to Miss Blanche and Mr Strafe r. During the evening a pleasant surprise was given to Mesdames Pearson and Nnttrass, when Mr McR. Davidson announced that he bad been deputed to present these two ladies with a gift, on behalf of those who had attended the assemblies during the season. In doing so, Air Davidson said that, to bring anv undertaking to a successful issue two things were necessary—energy and perseverance. In connection with the assemblies, as also with other public functions, these two ladies bad shown these necessary qualities, and it was felt by those who had attended the assemblies that some recognition should lie shown for the energy that had been expended to give them the enjoyment that they had received. The speaker said there were also others who had devoted much time and trouble in this connection, and lie bad been asked to also thank them. He had much pleasure in handing to Mesdames Pearson and Nnttrass the tokens of the pupils’ appreciation. Air Nnttrass, replying on behalf of the ladies mentioned, said that the presentation was a complete surprise to the recipients and he thanked them heartily. The supper arrangements were excellent, and an ample quantity of dainty refreshments were provided in the supper-room, the tables of which were quite attractive with decorations of pot plants and artificial flowers. Tlie function was most successful in every respect and reflects credit on those responsible, and the financial outcome will he that the Plqft- ■ ket Society’s funds will benefit to the extent of something like £lO. The Al.’sCi were Messrs Nnttrass, Head and Walls. The committee responsible for the arrangements were Mesdames Pearson, Sea bury, Hynes, Heaseman, Procter, Head,' and Nnttrass and Messrs Nnttrass, Walls,' and Pearson. The function was continued until 3 a.m.
