PROTEST AGAINST AVANGANUI
TROTTING CLUB. CLASHING WITH LOCAL RACE DATES. Indignation has been aroused, and is general throughout the district, by the intention of the Wanganui Trotting Club to race on 19th and 22nd January as the dates will clash with those of the Eoxton Racing Club, whose meeting on those dates has been a fixture for fifty years. The Eoxton Club has protested to the racing and trotting conferences and the Minister of Internal Ailairs pointing out that this is an attempted violation of an important principle. IL‘ a precedent is created in this ease, the club points out, there is nothing to prevent trotting clubs usurping old-established racing cluhs* holiday dates.
Failing satisfactory action by the Trotting Conference, the Eoxton Ciul> has decided to bring-the matter before individual members of Parliament and the sporting institutions throughout the Dominion. it can hardly he pleaded that the Wanganui Club officials were unaware of the Eoxton dates when (hey applied for January 22nd, so I hat their action is most unsportsmanlike and calls for censure from those who wish to see country racing cluhs, literally groaning under U o taxation demanded of them by the Government, given every chance t., pay their way. If the \\ anganui Clan remains obdurate in this matter, il is hoped the Minister will ini rvene and compel that body to , Jan.-se another date. If the two .port.- arc to progress side by side, t mu i! is surely possible for some arrangement to be made whereby a.-:, a position as has now arisen .. mild be obviated.
