HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
Tim Spring: Bulb Show was opened yesterday afternoon. The Rev. Waiton (President) in addressing those present at the opening, said that he was pleased to see such fresh vigour displayed at this show. There were some sixty more entries this year than last and lie hoped (hat even greater interest would he evinced at the Summer Show. He wanted to see every citizen enter something. This was only the bulb show and hence was small, but be felt quite confident that the Summer Show would prove a great success. In the past they had found that people did not enter their bulbs because they did not know in what section to enter them. At the present show quite a number of bulbs had been disqualified on account of being entered in the wrong section. This, however, could be overcome by people attending the lecture on bulbs to be held that night by Mr Shailer of Palmerston North. He went on to thank all those who had in any way helped to make this show such a success. People should take an interest in flower cultivation as it benefited and beautified the hometown and created interest in the community. He then called on the Mayor (Mr J. Chrystall) to formally declare the show open. The Mayor said that he was pleased to see such a fine exhibition of bulbs and congratulated those who had entered. He said he was pleased to see so much interest being taken in this direction and to note the revival of interest in the Horticultural Society. He then formally declared the Show open.
