SCHOOL SWIMMING BATHS.
HAD it not been for the wrongful transfer of a piece of land to the Borough Council at the rear of the old cemetery and adjoining the school by the Native Land Board, the school swimming baths would ere now be an accomplished fact. The school committee were informed by Mr Hone McMillan, that the owners interested would have no objection to the transfer of the land to the Education Department, but a mistake had been made in transferring the wrong section to the Council. We have reason to believe that the section the Council desired transferred was already a cemetery reserve —it appears as such on the original map of the borough. Hence the mistake. We believe the Council will assist the school committee to secure the transfer of the section and when this is accomplished provision will be made for school swimming baths and a consummation devoutly to be wished. So far as finance is concerned in providing baths, this can be met without troubling the Council or in any way prejudicing the public baths proposal. The school committee will deal fully with the matter at its next meeting.
