FALSE INCOME TAX RETURNS.
FINED £2OO. Dunedin. September 7. Samuel Dunn, ex-publican, was fined a total of £2OO on charges of making a false return of income in respect of a hotel at Heriot. The income shown on his return for two years was £1,587 and the tax paid £lls, whereas investigation showed the actual income was £7,430, and the tax payable £1,725. Defendant admitted the offence, the explanation being that he was ■smarting under a sense of injustice through the license being lost in the boundary alterations and he wanted to get square with the Government.
