PRESENTATION.
A pleasing function took place at the Fire Station last night, when Fireman Perreau, on behalf of the Brigade, presented to Superintendent McDermid a suitably engraved cigarette-holder and case. In doing so, he expressed regret that the Brigade were losing the services of the superintendent, who had retired on account of leaving the district. Since he had been connected with the brigade he had been most enthusiastic, and his experience in fire-fighting and general knowledge had been of inestimable value to all concerned. The brigade wished him every success and prosperity in his future movements.
Superintendent McDermid feelingly thanked the brigade for its token of esteem, and their appreciation of his services. His heart was in the work of fire-fighting, and he was pleased to know that at last Foxton possessed such a fine equipment and such an enthusiastic brigade. He wished them every success, and hoped his services had been of some benefit to them in the initial stages.
