THE STEEPLECHASE MEET.

(To the Editor.)

Sir. —Judging by the fine performance and enjoyable assistance given by the local Band at the Steeplechase meet yesterday, it is hoped they will not be forgotten in the distribution of the proceeds from the Ball, in accordance with the Council’s wish that the funds should be placed to the credit of some deserving local institution. So far, the Band is apparently the “local institution” that helped the Steeplechase Club, and their assistance and fine playing received comment from the visitors. I understand the Band has a large debit owing on their silver instruments, and it would be a pity to allow such a fine organisation as the Band which is helping to advertise our town —fall through for want of a due consideration and local support. —I am, etc., SPORTSMAN.
