MANAWATU HUNT

POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE.

For some years past the Alanawatu Hunt Club has held periodical “meets” at Foxton, over Alessrs Robinson Bros.’ property, on the Beach Road. The locality was once famous as a polo ground, and many doughty contests by the polo champions of bygone days were witnessed there. The owners have since placed the grounds at the disposal of the Manawatu Hunt Club, and the going is considered ideal and well sheltered, while the public can obtain an uninterrupted view from start to finish from the

main road. The Club decided to reward the enthusiasm and interest of local members by holding a point-to-point steeplechase, which took place yesterday. The local committee spared no pains to prepare the course and obstacles, and to provide other conveniences for those taking part. The weather was ideal, and upwards of 1,000 people assembled from all parts of (he district to witness the events, the road being lined with motor cars. The going was ideal, and the jumping throughout was really first-class, and there were no mishaps. The Foxton Silver Band, under the conductorship of Air J. Golder, gave their services voluntarily, and enlivened the proceedings with a number of selections, which were much appreciated by the public.

Air S. R. Lancaster, president of the Hunt, officiated as judge; Mr J. Shaw, starter; Air D. B. AlcEwen, clerk of scales, and Afr L. .Procter clerk of course; the general committee of the Hunt supervising the proceedings. Following are the results:—
