MANGAHAO HYDRO-ELECTRIC WORKS.

Tt was remarked in the House of Representatives on Saturday that the cost of the Mangahao tunnel would be £825,000. The Minister stated that the estimates in respect of Mangahao would be exceeded —possibly doubled —still this was a most necessary link in the North Island system. As it happened, it was in a position where power was most wanted. Some power would have to be supplied at that point to link up with Arapuni and Waikaremoana. It was expected that the work at Mangahao would be finished next year. March had been put down as the date, but possibly it would be June. The works were ready to receive the machinery, and in six months’ time there should be very little to do there.
