IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETINGS

The Chamber of Commerce has arranged for the holding of public meetings to he addressed by representatives of the Hydro-Electrifl Power Board and the newly-formed Manawatu-Oroua River Drainage Board. The representatives of the Power Board will he Mr Monk (chairman), who will explain the Board’s policy; Air Alex. Ross (member), who will deal with electricity in its application to industrial pursuits; and Air T. Overton (engineer), who will deal technically and with costs. Air Bell, chairman of the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board, and the engineer to the Board, will outline the big scheme for draining the fertile land on the banks of the Manawatu now subject to inundation, and the proposed overflow cuts to provide a quick getaway for the congested waters of the Alanawatu. Both meetings should prove of interest to residents and settlers, as the schemes will have a great bearing on the future progress of the district.
