FAREWELL SOCIAL TO REV. AND MRS. MINIFIE.

A farewell social was tendered to the Rev.. and Mrs Minifie on Thursday evening, in the Foxton Methodist Sunday schoolroom. Mr J. Banlcs, circuit steward, presided, and spoke of the faithful manner in which Ah* Minifie had discharged his spiritual and pastoral duties. In speaking of his organising ability, Mr Banks referred to the renovating of the parsonage, and the removal of the Beach church to Foxton, and its conversion into a commodious and wellappointed schoolroom, and the improvement of the parsonage and church grounds. They all regretted Mr Minifie’s retirement on account of ill-health, and wished him a speedy recovery and success. He also paid a tribute to the good work done by Mrs Minifie. On behalf of the congregation, he presented Mr and Mrs Minitie with an oak case containing a set of fish knives and forks, and a suitably inscribed silver serviette ring to their little son. (These goods were obtained from Mr J. Golder’s establishment). Mr Banks conveyed apologies from Messrs J. K. Hornblow, H. Berry and Andrews (Levin). Brief eulogistic speeches were made by the Revs. McDonald (Presbyterian), IV. H. Walton (Anglican), Ensign Huston (Salvation Army), and Mr Chrystall (on behalf of the local lay preachers). In responding on behalf of himself and wife, the Rev. Minifie sincerely thanked the speakers' for their expressions of good will, and for the tokens of esteem. Mr Minitie said the keenest appreciation of bis work among them would he the rallvng of their assistance and hearty co-operation to his successor, and the general work for the extension of the Kingdom of Christ. Although resigning from the ministry, lie would continue his services as an active layman, as he considered the great need of the Church wasj service rendered by its members.

During the evening items were contributed by Misses Chalk, Sea (Idea (2), Griffin, and Air Davidson. The ladies of the congregation provided refreshments, and the proceedings terminated by the singing of the National Anthem. The Rev. Mr ATinifie conducts his farewell services throughout the circuit to-morrow, and will take his departure for Raetihi on Monday.
