MUNICIPAL CHAMBERS
The new local Municipal Chambers are now completed, and adds another substantial building to our town.
The building is of brick, both exterior and interior, with concrete foundations. The whole of the exterior walls are plastered in cement, and the panels of the front facade are in whitened rough cast. The interior walls are cement plastered five feet above the floor, and thence in putty plaster. The ceilings are paneled with fibrous plaster, and stained battens. The whole of the interior woodwork is walnut stained. The ceiling of the Council room is beamed, and the building is well lighted and ventilated. The floor is in plastered concrete. The front elevation is of a modern design, and is neat, and has a very pleasing effect. The contractor is Mr T. W. Hunt, and his work reflects credit on him. The sub-contractor for the plastering are Messrs Brett and Johnson, of Palm'erston North, and their work is a great credit to them. The architect is Mr M. R. Vamliam, F.N.Z.1.A., of Levin. The building will be ready for occupation in a few week’s time.
