RANGER ASKED TO APOLOGISE
ON EX-PARTY ACCUSATION.
CR. ROSS ASKS FOR FAIR PLAY. When matters concerning borough ranging were under discussion^ —~ at last night’s Borough Council meeting Cr. Bryant said that he had a complaint to make in connection with the borough ranger. He alleged that the ranger had taken stock away from a bay who was minding them some three wool:?, ago. When interview .1 concerning this matter (he ranger fad used insulting language to him (Cr. Bryant). This was not the first time this had occurred. The Mayor said that the rang, should he called upon to apologisCr. Ross objected to one party’s statement being taken in the absence of the other. He said it w: not a fair thing to eall upon thrangev to apologise without bearing his side of the argument. The Mayor said the ranger should not speak to one of his employers as he had fme.
The Town Clerk then gave an account of the argument, which had occurred in the Council Chambers, during which the alleged language had been used. He said the argument had been very heated and both men “had their coats off.” Cr. Bryant denied this and said lie had had his coat oft* all the time. Cr. Bryant said there was also another matter. He had asked at (he previous meeting that the ranger submit an explanation about a certain cow impounded off Union St. This request he had ignored.
It was finally decided that the ranger he instructed to reply to th question re cow in Union St. and so that lie lie asked to withdr language used to a Councillor. C'r. Ross still protesting again Council’s action, said ranger should he given a hcau before arriving at such a decisio
