BOROUGH COUNCIL.

COUNCILLOR CONVENES SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Tuesday nighty The meeting was convened by the Mayor on the request of Cr. Adams.

Cr. Adams, in addressing the Council, said that he had asked for the meeting in the interests of public health. He complained of the disgusting state in which a dwelling had been left by an outgoing tenant locally. He went into the matter in detail. He also complained about the non-fumigation of a residence in Union Street, in which two residents had died of consumption. It was not Council work, but a matter for the Health Officer. Cr. Smith said that the Health Officer should keep an eye on such cases. It was decided that the Inspector of Health be asked to serve notice on -the owner'of the' property concerned to have the property cleaned up and that the Inspector give an explanation re house -iri- Union St. GENERAL. Permission was granted to the Beautifying Society to fence off portion of Victoria Park for beautifying purposes. Mr J. Hoffmann’s tender for the erection of shelves in the new council chambers was accepted. It was decided that portion of section IG2 be deleted from the lease of the Tower Reserve; that Messrs Ross, Rough and Co. grant the Council exclusive use of part section IG2 as suggeted by Messrs Moore and Bergin and that arrangements be made for a survey of section 250 and the title for same obtained.
