NOXIOUS WEEDS BILL
OUR MEMBER’S VIEWS
THE GOATSRUE MENACE.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday evening on the Noxious Weeds Bill, the member for the Manawatu district (Mr ,T. Link! a ter) said that in his opinion, in order to get the best results from land it was necessary to keep good pasture as free from weeds as possible, because the land occupied hv weeds was waste land and was a loss both to the individual and to the State. Therefore, he thought that every effort should be made by the Government to keep down weeds in New Zealand and their efforts should be backed up by every farmer. He agreed with the remarks that had been made by the member for Otaki with regard to the menace of goats me in the Knirange County. This weed bad taken hold along the banks of the Manawatu River and the settlers in the county are verv much perturbed nbout the possibility of it spreading over their lands. So concerned is the County Council about the matter that the metal which is drawn from the Manawatu River has been watched, and any plant of goats me that is seen among the grovel is removed by the roadmen and they also have orders to remove any plants that grow on the roads of the County. He hoped the Minister would agree to have goatsrne included among the noxious weeds as he was sure that by doing so he would be rendering a great service to the people of his electorate.
