The report of the gas works committee recommending fliat the suggestion of Ihe gas works manager to erect a five-light Humphrey light at the apex of the triangle, was adopted. The Mayor said that they would have to have some gas lamps left in the borough in case the electric power broke down. It would be a good idea to have this powerful light at the south end of the triangle. Mr P. J. Jack’s tender for council furnishing was accepted. Twelve chairs for the council table are to be purchased at a cost of 45/- each and the table for £lB 18s.

It was decided that the borough plumber be instructed to connect the pound cottage with the water and drainage and that the Town Hall Committee meet and discuss the matter of location of conveniences at the Town Hall. The Mayor brought up the question of disconnecting the night soil service in the number 1 area. He said that it was time the service was stopped in that area as there were very few who had not connected up with the water and drainage service and the expense was not called for. All connections should have been made before now. Cr. Smith said that if the Coun(it could not find the money to assist ratepayers with connections they could not stop the nightsoil removal service. Cr. Ross said that the Council would have to get the money. The Mayor pointed out that he could see no difficulty in procuring the money from the State Advances office. It was decided to discontinue the nightsoil removal service in the no. 1 area as from September 30, 1923. It was decided that an advance of £250 be made from the District Fund account by way of capital and that an account be opened in the hooks under the heading “House Drainage Connection account” and that all payments and receipts be charged thereto. That before cqymencing any work plumber shall prepare an estimate of the cost of such proposed work and shall keep details of the actual material used in each job. Cr. Thorpe brought up the question of 'a dust bin system for the main thoroughfare but the matter was held ..over until the next meeting.
