SOCCER NOTES.
The local team played the R.S.A. of Palmerston North on Saturday on the racecourse at Foxton. Jenvey captained the local team which won the spin of the coin and. took advantage of playing with the sun behind them. The ball was set iu motion by R.S.A. whose c-entre forward passed to his outside left who took the ball down the field and centering, the result of which was a goal. On the ball being set in motion again the local boys got possession of the leather and they soon made tracks for their goal and McColl, for Foxton, did some pretty opening play and when well in position passed the ball to Jenvey who passed out to Francis, who centred and McColl converted. The score now stood at 1 all. Both goalies made several fine saves the first half and ploy was fairly well adjusted on both sides. On resuming play after half time, the local boys put some ginger into their play and played with their old style. Some pretty work was witnessed between Jenvey and McColl, who play well together. The local forward line gave the R.S.A. defence plenty of hard work although the R.S.A. put up a stubborn defence. Foxton were not to be denied, however, and when the whistle blew time, the score stood at 6 to 1 in favour of Foxton.
Jenvey did the “hat trick” by scoring three goals in succession.
McColl also accounted for one goal, as did Francis and Jenvey. AYilby being on Ihe sick-list Matthews filled the position. To date Foxton have played 9 matches in the Manawatu League and have won 7, lost 2, points 14 for against. 4.
