PALMERSTON NORTH DEVIATION.
A QUESTION ANSWERED,
Wellington, July 17
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr T. M. Wilford) asked the Minister of Railways to-day whether it was intended to go on with the Palmerston North railway deviation.
Mr Coates rep Lied that he had been approached on that matter before by the member for Palmerston North and the Mayor, and had told them that when the development side of the Railways Accounts was being considered he would go into the whole question of railways throughout New Zealand and would endeavour to let them know what the policy for the Dominion would he, and when the work could be undertaken.
Mr Wilford: Will there be any opportunity of letting Parliament have a vote on it?
The Minister: That is a matter for the Prime Minister. Mr Coates added that he was not prepared to say what attitude the Prime Minislev would take up in connection with that aspect of the mater.
