MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday afternoon, when there were present; Sir J. G. Wilson, (chairman), and Crs, H. H. Hunt, J. Boyce, W. E. Barber, W. S. Penny, H. .T. Fagan, J. P. McKelvie. CORRESPONDENCE
From the Public Works Department, forwarding a plan of the various county areas proposed to he included in one of the eighteen highway districts proposed to he constituted under the Main Highways Act, 1922, and asking that further information lie supplied concerning the portion of the Manawatu County affected. The plan of the district in question included parts of' Maknra, Hutt, Horowhenua, Manawatu, Kairanga, Oroua, Pohangina and Kiwitea County Councils. —It was decided • i supply the information asked for, hut to recommend that the Hutt and Makara highways counties should be joined to the Wairarapa highways district, as these counties’ roads did not so much serve the West Coast as other areas. It was further recommended that, as the Manawatu County was closely connected with the Rangitikei County, these should ho in the same highway district.
From F. Woods, drawing atten-. tion to the had state of Motuiti road. —Referred to engineer. From Mr J. Linklater, M.P., advising that, in answer to the council’s request that the Minister of Public Works visit the Shannon bridge and that part of the district affected by heavy motor traffic, Mr Coates had replied that he could not do so at present. The writer would see the Minister in Wellington and endeavour to arrange a visit.—Received. From F. A. Mills, asking that a new culvert he put in near the Oroua Downs post office. —Left to engineer. STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS. The statement of accounts showeded a debit of £2,120 ,17s lOd in respect to the comity fund account, and a credit of £8,894 8s 2d in the loan account, leaving a net credit balance of £0.767 10s 4d. Amounts available for expenditure in various ridings were as follows: —Sandon, £7OB 10s fid; Ml. was decided tn request an architect to provide an estimate and a sketch plan for presentation to next meeting.
A slaughterhouse license was granted F. IT. ITmvaii, of Foxton. Accounts totalling £1,372 8s 8d were passed for payment.
