NEW DUTIES ON TEA.
CHANGES TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY. Wellington. Last Night. “Tea merchants,” stated the Hon. W> D. Stewart to a pressman, “are anxious to know as soon as possible when the change in duties Avill take place. I have recommended Cabinet that the nlteratbVn should take place as requested by most merchants, as soon as the resolutions pass the House oil the presentation of the Budget. At Avhat date the Budget will be presented depends on the time occupied by the Address-in-Reply, hut the most definite notice I can approximate to is that from the presentation of the Budget and subject to the concurrence of Parliament. “The duties on tea aa- ill be: —Tea in bulk, of British origin, free: foreign in bulk, 2d per lb.; packet tea, British, 2d per lb.; packet tea, foreign, 4d per lh.; primage, 1 per cent, as usual, in every case.”
