(To the Editor.) Sir, —As a parent I would express my feelings a little in ferenee to punishment meted out to some of the pupils attending the State school. I have three children attending the school and one, a girl of thirteen, who recently was strapped for failing to answer certain questions. Now, sir, I admit , that children (both boys and girls) deserve punishment for certain filings such as disobedience or continual cheek, but not for failing to answer questions or the like. 1 think a better method would be for the teacher to explain things as that is what the teachers are there for I presume. I am not the solitary parent who has had to complain about this. Trusting the teacher will read, mark, and digept these few remarks. I am etc. PARENT. P.S. “Spare the rod and spoil the child” doesn’t necessarily count in this respect. [WE have omitted certain personal matters in connection with the above and would advise “Parent” to submit his complaint to the proper authorities for consideration. —Ed. H.]
