ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

A League match was played on the local racecourse on Saturday between Dawbers A. team and the local boys. Dawbers captain, winning the spin of the coin, decided to defend the north end and Jenvey set the ball in motion for Foxton and made straight for Daw tier’s goal, where they found that Dawbers defence was very safe. The play was very fast and willing on both sides but after about twenty minutes play Dawbers got going in a more decided fashion which ended in netting the initial score. On resuming Jenvey passed the ball to Nixon and he passed back to Jenvey who took the ball straight down the field beating Dawbers on his own and giving their goalie one of the hotest shots he ever had and which bent him all the way. Honours were now even, one all.

On resuming, midfield play ensued for a time and then Dawbers got going again and ended by netting their second goal just before halftime. Dawbers 2, Foxton 1.

The ball again in motion, Foxton tried hard to equalise but Dawbers defence was very safe until Francis passed to MeKnight and he took a pot shot at goal and succeeded. Foxton 2, Dawbers 2. On resuming, Dawlter's made things lively and tried hard to get in the lead again and finally succeeded. This made the loeal boys buck up, but, try as they would, Dawbers’ defence was bard to beat. Francis, getting possession took the ball down and looked very dangerous, when one of the Dawbers men saved the situation at the expense of a penalty kick. Jenvey taking the penalty kick, put the hall over the bar. Midfield play continued until the whistle sounded full time, the score being 3—2 in favour of Dawbers. The referee kept the game well in band and with the exception of two of his decisions, gave every satisfaction. The local boys have played seven matches to date, won five and lost two. Mounsoy, Francis and Jenvey, of Foxton, are worthy of special mention, also Dawbers’ centre half and right inside.

At a management meeting held on June 11th, it was arranged to start a club room and gym. as from the 14th inst. and Mr j. McCol] has been appointed coach to the club. The arrangements re the club room were left in the bands of the following sub. -committee: Messrs Jack, Winstanley and Bvne. Tt now behoves all playing members to turn up and make themselves fit for future games. Tt was also decided to charge club members fid per week towards the cost of defraying expenses. All intending members should make application to the secretary before the number of members are completed, otherwise they may be left lamenting.
