WATERSIDERS' BALLOT.
) SETTLE COURT’S DECISION,
Wellington, Last Niglit
A question put to the members of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union at a ballot to-day was: “Are von in favour of a settlement with Could, McGee, Tilley and Kavanagh on the basis outlined in the secretary’s report given members at the slopwork meeting of June 5.” The ballot affected the question of arriving at a settlement of the Union’s liability, following on the judgment of the Supreme Court for £2OB costs for each of the plaintiffs. The voting resulted: Yes 530; No 308.
The Union will now meet the judgment on Ihe terms agreed to by the parties. Three hundred and fifty out of about .1,300 members did not vote. If the ballot had gone against n settlement, the Union would have gone out of existence for a while, •is the receiver would have taken charge of its affairs.
