CARD CLUB.

An inaugural meeting for the purpose of forming a Card Club was held in Perreau’s Rooms on Thursday evening. There was a representative attendance of members of friendly societies, railwaymen and the general public present. The meeting decided that a card club be formed, to be called the Foxton Card Club, the membership fee being set at one shilling. Three teams are to be arranged for competition purposes, the combinations being as follows : —Railwaymen and flremen, Druids and Oddfellows, bandsmen, and citizens. These teams will be subsequently allotted the names of Reform, Liberal and Labour', but not necessarily in that order, and during contests between any two teams, that team which is not drawn to play will divide its players equally between the two contesting teams thus affording play to all members on every tournament evening. Contests will be conducted on the triangular system. Alessrs and J. Dunn have been appointed**' represent the Firemen and Railwaymen, Alessrs Aitchison and Perreau the bandsmen, and citizens, and Alessrs Vertongeu and Hynes the Friendly Societies. Mr E. Ball was elected secretary pro tem. A general meeting and card party will be arranged for next week, the date of which will be advertised in Tuesday’s issue. .
