FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of. the Foxton Harbour Board was concluded after the “Herald” went to press on Thursday. There were present: Messrs J. Linklater, ALP., (chairman), J. A. Nash, ALP., E. R. B. Holben, J. Chrystall, W. E. Barber, T. J. Clapliam, J. AAA Rimmer, and AY. Signal.

The Chairman reported that the question <>f access to the foreshore through Air Baker’s section had been gone into, but it. had been found that nothing could be done in that direction. The sanatorium road, however, would provide a reasonably good mode of access. In the same connection with... the port, the railway department had granted them access to various points, but had refused the access to the wharf sheds, which they desired. The chairman and Afr Nash ao'reed to interview the General Manager of Railways and the Minis! or, with a view to ascertaining the board’s position in the matter of storing benzine in the wharf sheds.

In regard to the action of the Railway Department in charging sorting fees, it was suggested that (he shed might be shifted to obviate these costs. —It was decided that the board’s engineer (AH' Jiekell) be asked to furnish a report on the matter. Tn connection with the sanatorium road, the chairman said that specifications were to hand for the raising of certain low portions by two feet, about 21 chains needing treatment in this respect. The work had been commenced, but the contractors who had put in a. very low price now found themselves in difficulties. The chairman was deputed to interview the contractor and inform him that the hoard might be able to assist him. The woodwork at the wharves was stated to need attention, and it was decided to have the engineer furnish ft report. The information regarding the Foxton Harbour Board, which the secretary prepared to supply to the Census and Statistics Office for the purpose of a municipal hand book, was approved with two amendments That it be made clear that the board had already acquired the property and that it had a dredge working in the river. It was agreed to erect notice boards as suggested in the secretary’s report, and to have the work of formation of Perreau’s right-of-way proceeded with. In the matter of preservation of the native bush at the Round Bttskj-' the chairman was appointed to go into the question of a joint exchange with the Lands Department.

After a brief discussion it was decided that the insurance on the pilot’s launch be continued as formerly, it having been found that a cheaper rate could not be secured.
