SEASIDE IMPROVEMENTS.
NEW ROAD FORMED,
The Fox ton Harbour Board is leaving no stone unturned to make its seaside endowment attractive to visitors and residents. It has generously co-operated with the Beach Improvement Committee in treeplanting, stopping sand drifts, etc. The Board has given the question of roading a good deal of attention in order to provide access to the sections which it has surveyed and thrown open for residential sites. In this connection the Chairman, Mr J. Linklater, M.P., has taken a very keen interest, and in conjunction with Messrs W. E. Barber and Signal, and the Secretary, the formation of a new' road has been laid off and completed, w'hich will enable vehicular traffic to gain access to the residential quarter without having to traverse the river foreshore. The new' road leads off from the Main Beach road at the turning after passing the concrete bridge, and strikes straight across to the sanitorium, and joins with fhe road leading from the hall, and provides much improved access. The road is about 31 chains in length. It is proposed to plant suitable trees along the south side of this roadway this year, which will not only add to the attractiveness of the approach, but will provide shelter from the south-west-erly winds. The cost of the new road formation was remarkably cheap, and the contractor, Mr Hartley, underestimated the cost of the work. How'ever, he has carried out the job thoroughly, and the Board will no doubt meet him in the matter. The new road is one of the most important works yet undertaken by the Board to further popularise this splendid seaside resort.
